3rd Review

On Friday the 8th of July I went to the Liverpool Philamonic to watch the Last Night of the Summer Pops. I've gone to see this for the last couple of years now and it never ceases to entertain me. This year was Beatles year with lots of the classic hits being played from A Day In The Life to one of the most popular songs that the Beatles ever made which is Hey Jude. Listening to them being by an orchestra was definitetly outstanding. Also as well as the Beatles music there was some more classical things where they got a soprano up who sang with the orchestra. After that there is always the patriotic songs like Rule Brittania etc.

My favourite part of the performance was listening to those classic Beatles tunes in full blast being performed by the philharmonic. It was quite sensational. The worst part of the performance has to be when the soprano came out and started singing. I think in past years I've had to cover my ears. I don't really enjoy that part because some of the notes she sings actually feel as if they almost shatter your ear drums. I don't want to listen to music that physically harms my ears! Obviously this is just personal feelings and due to the amount of applause that she got it must have been outstanding to some people. Definitely not me though.

There were two other bad parts to the performance. Firstly I was most probably the youngest person there so I felt just a bit isolated. The next is slightly strange. When I was entering the philamonic a man glared at me and started shaking his head at me. So I was wondering for the rest of the night what I could have possibly done wrong. Well it gave me something to think about when I was cringing because of the soprano.

Altogether though it was a really good atmosphere with many people singing along to the beatles songs and to the patriotic songs also. Some people brought flags that they held up proudly when rule Brittania was being played. In these situations though there's always wave a flag which has no relavance to Britain at all. There was an odd Scottish flag waving which I think is pretty acceptable but then there's a Spanish flying and then you think do they know what country this show is based around?

Another fantastic year. Can't wait for next year's show!
